Last updated: 2026-07-25 — applies to the Laptop Guard desktop app and laptop-guard.com.
Laptop Guard is an anti-theft app: it watches your laptop's camera and motion sensors while "armed" and raises an alarm (with photo/video evidence) if something suspicious happens. Because that core function involves your camera and location, this page explains exactly what's collected, why, and for how long.
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | At purchase (via Stripe) | To deliver your license key and provide support. Never used for marketing. |
| License key & device ID | When you activate the app | To verify your license and enforce the per-purchase device limit. |
| Camera photo/video clip | Only when armed and an alarm triggers (motion, lid closing, or power cable disconnected) | Evidence of what happened, shown to you in the app's alert and in your account at laptop-guard.com/manage.html. |
| Approximate location (from IP address) | Only when an alarm triggers | So you know roughly where the laptop was when the alarm fired. This is an IP-based estimate, not GPS. |
Laptop Guard does not access your camera, microphone, files, or location at any other time. While disarmed, or while armed with nothing happening, it collects nothing.
Alarm clips and their location data are uploaded to our backend (hosted on Cloudflare) and tied to your license key so only you can view them, from any device, at laptop-guard.com/manage.html. This is what lets you check for evidence even if the laptop itself was taken. Clips are automatically deleted after 30 days.
If you choose to connect your own Telegram bot in the app's settings, alarm clips are also sent directly to that bot — meaning to Telegram's servers, under Telegram's own privacy policy, using credentials only you control. This is off by default and entirely optional.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or analytics.
Laptop Guard is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
If this policy changes in a material way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
